Coach Ernesto Cruz began playing soccer in his home country of
El Salvador. Ernesto made the transition to playing competitive
soccer at the age of 8. Through the years his interest and passion
for soccer grew and Ernesto soon earned a spot on the Under-17 El
Salvadorian National Team. Ernesto was also contacted by a major club
team in El Salvador and was offered a spot as a reserve player for
Alianza FC. After his move to the United States Ernesto played
competitively for San Jose and San Francisco. Ernesto has over
fourteen years of coaching experience in the Bay Area with many local
clubs-Stanford, MVLA, San Mateo and Alpine. Ernesto has also coached
high school soccer: Woodside JV Soccer 2003, 2004 & 2005 and Palo
Alto High School Soccer 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 [CCS Finalist] &
2011 - with a total of 12 student athletes going on to play D1 College
soccer including Teresa Noyola [Stanford SC] National Award. Along
with his Typhoon coaching duties, Ernesto is currently coaching the
Alpine Strikers.
Coach Avi
Coach Avi, who holds an E/D Coaching License, began playing
soccer in his home country of the Fiji Islands. Growing up he played
as center back and then made the switch to the goalkeeper position.
He played both positions for his high school team, was selected to
play goalkeeper for the Lautoka Premier team, was selected to play on
the U16 Fiji National team and was selected to play on the Fiji
Premier League. After moving to the US he played on various local
teams and well as began his refereeing hobby. He began coaching both
his children at the youth level, beginning in 2001 thru AYSO, then
thru CYSA in 2005. He also has his Grade 5 Referee badge thru USSF.
He continues to be active on both his children's soccer teams. He is
also a member of the Positive Coaching Alliance.
